LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women’s golf team wrapped play at the SMU Trinity Forest invitational with its best team score of the tournament Tuesday to place fifth overall at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas.
Sofia Garcia added her fourth top-10 individual finish this season after carding the lowest final round for Tech’s lineup with a 2-under-par 70 card that included four-straight birdies to wrap the day. She concluded the two-day event at 4-over for the tournament and in a tie for seventh place.
As a team, the Red Raiders finished the final round of the two-day event with a 5-over 293 to wrap up the tournament at 40-over 904, pushing Tech up one spot from where it started the morning. The Red Raiders played the final two holes of the second round to start the day after the horn sounded due to darkness late Monday.
Cecilie Nielsen added her best score of the event in the final round with a 1-under 71 card to place tied for 28th individually. Amy Taylor and Gala Dumez both signed for 4-over 76 cards in the final round to finish tied for 39th and 43rd, respectively, while Louisa Brunt finished the final round with a 7-over 79 to close the tournament tied with Dumez.
Baylor commanded the event, taking home the team title after combining to finish the final round at 1-under 287 to conclude the event 14 strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma State. The Big 12 controlled the top-five spots as Texas finished in third at 27-over, while Kansas State followed at 39-over in fourth place, one stroke ahead of the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders will take less than a week off before traveling to Sarasota, Florida to compete in the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate hosted by Purdue. The three-day event begins Sunday morning at the Founders Golf Club.
